POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Senior Preconstruction Manager, the Estimator is responsible for reviewing detailed drawings and specifications, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, and preparing accurate proposals, bid packages, and cost estimates for large industrial and renewable energy construction projects.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the development of conceptual (ROM), detailed, and final estimates for large-scale industrial and energy projects.
- Review drawings, specifications, and contract documents across civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.
- Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and pricing strategies for complex scopes, including renewable energy and automotive facilities.
- Manage subcontractor and supplier solicitation, including bid leveling, scope review, and risk assessment.
- Work closely with operations, project management, engineering, and leadership on pricing strategies and execution plans.
- Identify project risks, opportunities, and value engineering solutions during preconstruction.
- Lead estimate reviews and present results to senior leadership and stakeholders.
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to secure competitive pricing for key equipment and materials.
- Support proposal development, including technical narratives and commercial submissions.
- Maintain and improve estimating systems, databases, and processes.
- Participate in client meetings, pre-bid meetings, and industry events.
- Provide cost support throughout the project lifecycle, including change orders and cost control.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Mentor junior estimators and support overall team development.
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- 10+ years of construction estimating experience on large-scale industrial projects.
- Strong knowledge of EPC, Design-Build, and integrated project delivery models.
- Degree or diploma in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Working knowledge of Canadian construction standards, codes, and regulatory requirements.
- Familiarity with procurement, supply chain logistics, and EPC cost drivers.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with high accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, productivity factors, and trade-specific cost drivers.
- Ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced, bid-driven environment.
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and present to senior stakeholders.
- Ability to interpret drawings, technical specifications, and contract documents, and evaluate commercial, financial, and contractual risks.
- Experience with industrial, heavy civil, renewable energy, automotive manufacturing, or battery storage projects is an asset.
- Experience estimating electrical scopes, including low, medium, and high-voltage systems, is an asset.
- Hands-on trade experience or certification, or a construction-related diploma is considered an asset.
- Experience with estimating software such as Accubid, Bluebeam, or similar platforms.
BENEFITS & COMPENSATION:
- Base salary is $100,000 - $145,000, dependent on candidate job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
