Construction Superintendent

Location: Charlottesville, VA


Barton Malow is seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to lead field operations on some of the region's most impactful projects across higher education, healthcare, and sports & entertainment markets. This role is responsible for driving safety, quality, schedule, and subcontractor performance while serving as the on-site leader for project execution.


As a Superintendent, you'll play a key role in delivering complex facilities that enhance communities, improve patient care, support academic excellence, and create memorable experiences for athletes and fans. You will collaborate closely with project teams, owners, architects, and trade partners to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and at the highest level of quality.



What You'll Do

  • Lead and coordinate all on-site construction activities from mobilization through project completion.
  • Develop and maintain a safe, productive, and collaborative jobsite environment where safety is the top priority.
  • Manage subcontractor performance, sequencing, and daily field operations to maintain project schedules and productivity goals.
  • Partner with project management teams to support budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and change management efforts.
  • Assist in developing bid packages, scopes of work, and subcontractor procurement strategies.
  • Create and implement comprehensive site logistics plans that maximize efficiency while minimizing disruptions to campus, healthcare, or occupied facilities.
  • Conduct daily planning meetings, site walks, and progress reviews to proactively identify and resolve project challenges.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with contract documents, quality standards, and owner expectations.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, architects, consultants, and trade partners throughout the project lifecycle.


What We're Looking For

  • 7+ years of construction field leadership experience supervising commercial construction projects and trade partners.
  • Experience delivering projects in one or more of the following markets: higher education, healthcare, sports & entertainment, commercial, or institutional construction.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead diverse project teams and successfully manage multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong knowledge of scheduling, construction sequencing, site logistics, safety compliance, and quality management.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills with clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.
  • Proven ability to solve problems, manage conflict professionally, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
