We're seeking an experienced Senior Safety Professional who reflects these values and is ready to serve as the safety authority on major projects across our Sports & Entertainment, Healthcare, Higher Education, and large-scale commercial work.
The Senior Safety Professional is responsible for leading safety on assigned projects, setting the standard, mentoring project teams and junior safety staff, and shaping safety culture from the ground up. This role is critical in anticipating risk, driving proactive planning, enforcing full OSHA compliance, and delivering safe, high-quality outcomes to the owner.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the lead safety authority on assigned projects, independently resolving complex safety matters with project-wide implications.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve project-specific safety plans aligned with the Barton Malow Safety Manual and OSHA standards.
- Drive a proactive safety culture, partnering with project leadership to anticipate hazards and embed safety into planning and execution.
- Conduct daily safety inspections and audits, identifying and abating hazards, unsafe acts, and violations before they escalate.
- Perform and oversee inspections of machines, tools, equipment, vehicles, and safety equipment; hold Competent Person status to determine proper action and disposition.
- Lead safety meetings, orientations, and toolbox talks, and present safety matters in project leadership meetings.
- Mentor and develop junior safety staff and project team members, building safety capability across the organization.
- Lead investigations for all incident types, compiling documentation, root cause analysis, and corrective action plans while ensuring full regulatory and contractual compliance.
Qualifications
- 6+ years of construction safety experience, with a track record of leading safety on complex projects.
- OSHA 30 certification required; OSHA 510 certification preferred.
- Professional safety certification (CHST, ASP, or CSP) strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and lead safety programs with minimal oversight.
- Strong leadership, communication, and mentorship skills.
- Experience across one or more of our core markets, Sports & Entertainment, Healthcare, Higher Education, or large-scale commercial preferred.
