POSITION SUMMARY
Barton Malow is seeking a Mechanical Project Manager to join our Thermal Team on a large-scale thermal project in New Albany, Ohio. This role is responsible for leading the mechanical scope of work from preconstruction through commissioning and turnover, with a strong focus on HVAC, piping, plumbing, process mechanical systems, and thermal infrastructure.
The Mechanical Project Manager will oversee project quality, safety, scheduling, budgeting, subcontractor coordination, and client relationships while ensuring all mechanical systems are installed in compliance with project specifications and industry standards. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership skills, technical mechanical construction expertise, and experience managing complex industrial or mission-critical thermal projects. This position is primarily site-based, with the majority of time spent in the field supporting project execution and collaborating with project teams, trade partners, and clients.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and manage all mechanical scopes associated with thermal systems including HVAC, hydronic piping, plumbing, process piping, equipment installation, and related infrastructure.
- Ensure all mechanical work is installed, tested, documented, and commissioned in accordance with project quality standards, contract documents, and applicable codes.
- Oversee compliance with client requirements, company policies, safety procedures, and mechanical construction standards.
- Coordinate and manage mechanical subcontractors, vendors, engineers, and field personnel throughout all phases of construction.
- Review and manage mechanical estimates, budgets, forecasts, schedules, procurement logs, and manpower planning.
- Support preconstruction efforts including constructability reviews, value engineering, scope development, and project planning.
- Review and coordinate mechanical submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and material approvals to ensure compliance with design intent and project requirements.
- Manage procurement and delivery of mechanical equipment and materials to support project schedules and commissioning milestones.
- Monitor and maintain project controls for mechanical scopes including cost tracking, change management, productivity, and schedule performance.
- Support weekly and monthly reporting related to mechanical progress, safety, quality, schedule, and financial performance.
- Collaborate with commissioning teams to support startup, testing, balancing, turnover, and owner training activities.
- Assist in the development and compilation of turnover documentation including O&M manuals, as-builts, warranties, and commissioning records.
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and technical guidance to project engineers, field staff, and other team members.
- Foster strong working relationships with clients, trade partners, and internal teams to ensure successful project delivery and client satisfaction.
- Support and participate in company-sponsored initiatives, safety programs, and continuous improvement efforts.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field.
- Mechanical construction experience in thermal, industrial, mission-critical, power, manufacturing, or large-scale commercial projects strongly preferred.
- Experience managing mechanical scopes involving HVAC systems, piping systems, process mechanical equipment, and thermal infrastructure.
- 5–8 years of relevant professional experience in mechanical construction or project management roles.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, construction sequencing, commissioning processes, and coordination with other trades.
- Experience leading teams of construction professionals, subcontractors, engineers, and field personnel.
- Proficiency with project management software, scheduling tools, and construction documentation platforms.
- OSHA 30 Hour certification preferred.
