POSITION SUMMARY

Barton Malow Company is seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our Oak Park Yard Operations team. This position is responsible for repairs and preventative maintenance on heavy equipment (more than 65 horsepower). The individual should have 5-7 years of relevant experience and hold either a CDL A or B license. This position also provides development and training to other mechanics and will require skills in electric repair, hydraulic repair, truck/trailer experience, steering and suspension, brakes, and engine performance.

 


KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Independently repairs and maintains large heavy equipment and engines without assistance
  • Performs minor and major repairs on all construction equipment, including small equipment
  • Able to weld and fabricate equipment
  • Travel to field job sites for repairs on equipment and completes road calls
  • Performs final quality inspections on repaired equipment and has knowledge of annual equipment inspections and DOT inspections
  • Commits to their work schedule to reduce absenteeism on the team as well as maintains a clean work space


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience working in a service shop or on construction equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of hydraulics.
  • Ability to operate construction equipment.
  • Welding and burning ability preferred.
  • Ability to work on hydraulic and air braking systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Basic understanding and diagnostic ability of diesel engines.
  • Certifications or specific training on the following preferred:
    • Brakes (Hydraulic and Air)
    • Engine (Gas and Diesel)
    • Transmissions
    • Troubleshooting
    • Suspension
