POSITION SUMMARY

 

Barton Malow is seeking a Re-Steel Fabricator to work out of our Oak Park, MI field operations. The Re-Steel Fabricator is responsible for operating fabrication machinery and equipment under the direction of the Fabrication Foreman to support the production of reinforcing steel for construction projects. This role ensures fabricated materials meet quality and installation requirements while maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient fabrication shop environment. The position also supports material handling activities, including loading fabricated steel for delivery and unloading incoming stock materials.


KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Focus on safety within the fabrication shop and actively support team members in maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Operate fabrication machinery and equipment in accordance with established procedures, guidelines, and shop safety protocols.
  • Inspect reinforcing steel products to verify compliance with installation requirements and quality standards.
  • Ensure tools and equipment requiring verification or certification maintain current tags and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with loading fabricated reinforcing steel onto trailers for transport to project sites.
  • Assist with unloading, handling, and organizing incoming stock materials.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to support safe and efficient fabrication operations.
  • Communicate equipment issues, material discrepancies, and safety concerns to the Fabrication Foreman.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in a fabrication, manufacturing, construction, or industrial environment preferred.
  • Experience operating fabrication machinery, material handling equipment, or similar industrial equipment preferred.
  • Knowledge of fabrication shop safety procedures and safe material handling practices.
  • Ability to read and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in basic shop mathematics and measurements.
  • Ability to perform physical work, including lifting, carrying, bending, standing, and working in a fabrication shop environment.
