Position Summary

Barton Malow is seeking a CSA Project Engineer for a mission critical project near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This is a full-time, on-site role based at the jobsite.

The CSA Project Engineer supports the civil, structural, and architectural package and reports to the CSA Project Manager. The core of the job is document flow: submittals, requests for information, and shop drawing coordination moving on a predictable turnaround so the field is never waiting on paper. These projects generate heavy document traffic, and the Project Engineer is the person who keeps it organized and moving.

Beyond processing, this role is expected to read the drawings critically. Catching a conflict between structural and architectural sheets at the review desk is worth far more than catching it in the field, and that judgment is what separates a good Project Engineer from a document clerk. This is a development role with a clear path toward Assistant Project Manager and Project Manager.

Key Job Responsibilities

• Manages the submittal process for the CSA package, including logging, review routing, distribution, and tracking against procurement and installation dates.
• Prepares, tracks, and closes out requests for information, holding turnaround discipline so open items do not accumulate ahead of the field.
• Coordinates shop drawings across structural, architectural, and civil scope, reviewing for conflicts, dimensional issues, and missed interfaces before release for fabrication.
• Reviews structural and architectural drawings against each other and against field conditions, raising conflicts to the Project Manager and design team early.
• Maintains document control, including current drawing sets, revisions, bulletins, as-built markups, and the project record.
• Tracks material procurement, fabrication, and delivery dates against the schedule, flagging long lead items at risk.
• Supports quality documentation, including inspection records, concrete and steel testing reports, and nonconformance tracking.
• Assists with subcontractor coordination, prepares meeting agendas and minutes, and follows up on open action items.
• Supports cost tracking, change documentation, and monthly reporting for the CSA package.
• Assists with project closeout, including operation and maintenance manuals, warranties, and final as-built documentation.
• Builds effective working relationships with the owner, design team, trade partners, and Barton Malow team members.

Required Knowledge, Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities

• Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil or structural engineering, architecture, or a related field, or equivalent field experience.
• 2 to 5 years supporting structural, architectural, and civil scope on large projects.
• Solid on submittals, requests for information, and shop drawing coordination, with real turnaround discipline.
• Able to read structural and architectural drawings well enough to catch conflicts before they hit the field.
• Organized under volume. These projects generate heavy document traffic, and the successful candidate keeps every log current without being chased.
• Working knowledge of construction sequencing and how CSA work gates MEP rough-in and equipment setting.
• Proficiency with construction management and document control platforms, drawing markup software, and Microsoft Office.
• Clear written and verbal communication with the design team, trade partners, and the project team.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and maintain accuracy under schedule pressure.
• A strong sense of urgency and ownership, with the initiative to chase an answer rather than wait for one.

Work Environment

• This is an on-site position. Full-time presence at the jobsite near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is required.
• Regular work in an active construction environment, including exposure to weather, noise, and uneven terrain, with required personal protective equipment.
