Position Summary

Barton Malow is seeking an MEP Project Engineer for a mission critical project near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This is a full-time, on-site role based at the jobsite.

The MEP Project Engineer supports the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing package and reports to the MEP Project Manager. The role runs the document flow for the package, including submittals, requests for information, and shop drawing coordination, and carries a significant share of the commissioning documentation, from pre-functional checklists and test scripts through issue log tracking and closure.

Technical fluency matters here. The expectation is that this person can trace a one-line diagram, follow a riser, read an equipment schedule, and speak to how the systems actually function rather than only where the paperwork sits. MEP coordination errors on mission critical projects are expensive and tend to surface late, so the detail work this role performs has real consequences. This is a development role with a clear path toward Assistant Project Manager and Project Manager.

Key Job Responsibilities

• Manages the submittal process for the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing package, including logging, review routing, distribution, and tracking against procurement and installation dates.
• Prepares, tracks, and closes out requests for information, holding turnaround discipline so open items do not accumulate ahead of the field.
• Coordinates shop drawings and equipment submittals across mechanical, electrical, and plumbing scope, reviewing against one-line diagrams, riser diagrams, equipment schedules, and sequences of operation before release for fabrication.
• Supports MEP coordination and clash resolution with the modeling team and trade partners, raising conflicts early rather than letting them reach the field.
• Assembles and tracks commissioning documentation, including pre-functional checklists, test scripts, startup reports, and issue logs, and drives open items to closure with the commissioning agent and trade partners.
• Tracks long lead equipment procurement, fabrication, factory testing, and delivery dates against the schedule, flagging items at risk.
• Maintains document control, including current drawing sets, revisions, bulletins, as-built markups, and the project record.
• Supports quality documentation, including inspection records, testing reports, and nonconformance tracking.
• Assists with subcontractor coordination, prepares meeting agendas and minutes, and follows up on open action items.
• Supports cost tracking, change documentation, and monthly reporting for the MEP package.
• Assists with project closeout, including operation and maintenance manuals, warranties, training documentation, and final as-built records.
• Builds effective working relationships with the owner, commissioning agent, design team, vendors, trade partners, and Barton Malow team members.

Required Knowledge, Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities

• Bachelor's degree in construction management, mechanical or electrical engineering, or a related field, or equivalent field experience.
• 2 to 5 years supporting mechanical and electrical scope. Mission critical exposure is strongly preferred.
• Able to trace one-line diagrams, riser diagrams, and equipment schedules, and speak to how the systems function.
• Has supported commissioning documentation and startup, including pre-functional checklists, test scripts, and issue logs.
• Detail-driven. MEP coordination errors on these projects are expensive and late-discovered, and this role is a primary line of defense against them.
• Solid on submittals, requests for information, and shop drawing coordination, with real turnaround discipline.
• Organized under volume, keeping every log current without being chased.
• Proficiency with construction management and document control platforms, drawing markup software, and Microsoft Office.
• Clear written and verbal communication with the design team, commissioning agent, vendors, and the project team.
• A strong sense of urgency and ownership, with the initiative to chase an answer rather than wait for one.

Work Environment

• This is an on-site position. Full-time presence at the jobsite near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is required.
• Commissioning and integrated systems testing phases may require extended or off hours coverage, including nights or weekends, to support live testing windows.
• Regular work in an active construction environment, including exposure to weather, noise, energized equipment areas, and uneven terrain, with required personal protective equipment.
