Position Summary
Barton Malow is seeking an OFCI Project Engineer for a mission critical project near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This is a full-time, on-site role based at the jobsite.
This role owns the owner furnished, contractor installed equipment program: the logistics chain that carries owner purchased equipment from purchase order through procurement tracking, delivery window, receiving, laydown and staging, rigging, and handoff to the installing subcontractor. On a mission critical project this equipment is the most schedule-sensitive material on site, and OFCI slippage cascades directly into commissioning and turnover.
The OFCI Project Engineer sits at the interface between owner vendors, the Barton Malow field team, and installing trade partners. Success looks like no surprises: delivery risk identified and communicated early, equipment received and documented cleanly, damage claims handled before they become disputes, and warranties transferred complete at closeout.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Maintains the owner furnished, contractor installed equipment log as the single source of truth, tracking every item from purchase order through installation and turnover.
- Tracks procurement status with owner vendors, including submittal and approval dates, fabrication progress, factory testing, and confirmed ship and delivery dates.
- Plans and manages delivery windows in coordination with the Superintendent, including site access, offloading equipment, crane and rigging availability, and traffic control.
- Manages laydown and staging areas, including sequencing, protection, environmental requirements, security, and space planning against the construction schedule.
- Coordinates rigging and setting plans with the field team and installing subcontractors, confirming routes, openings, structural capacity, and pad readiness before equipment arrives.
- Manages the installation handoff, confirming scope boundaries between owner vendor and installing subcontractor so nothing falls between the two.
- Serves as the day to day interface between owner vendors, the Barton Malow field team, and installing trade partners, keeping all three working from the same information.
- Identifies and communicates delivery risk early, quantifying schedule impact and escalating to the Project Manager and owner while there is still time to react.
- Manages receiving, including inspection at delivery, bill of lading and packing list verification, quantity reconciliation, and acceptance documentation.
- Documents shipping and handling damage thoroughly with photographs and written records, initiates claims with the owner and vendor, and tracks resolution and replacement.
- Assembles and transfers warranty documentation, operation and maintenance manuals, spare parts, and training records at closeout.
- Supports commissioning by confirming equipment is on site, set, and released to the installing subcontractor in time to meet startup and testing milestones.
Required Knowledge, Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, supply chain, or a related field, or equivalent field experience.
- 2 to 5 years in a construction project engineering, logistics, or materials management role, including experience managing owner furnished, contractor installed equipment on a major project. Mission critical exposure is strongly preferred.
- Understands the full logistics chain: procurement tracking, delivery windows, laydown, staging, rigging, and installation handoff.
- Comfortable serving as the interface between owner vendors, the Barton Malow field team, and installing subcontractors.
- Tracks and communicates delivery risk early, recognizing that OFCI slippage cascades straight into commissioning.
- Strong on receiving, damage documentation, and warranty transfer.
- Organized under volume, keeping equipment logs, delivery schedules, and claim records current without being chased.
- Able to read structural, architectural, and mechanical or electrical drawings well enough to verify rigging routes, openings, and equipment pad readiness.
- Proficiency with construction management and document control platforms, spreadsheets, and scheduling software.
- Clear, direct written and verbal communication with vendors, trade partners, the owner, and the project team.
- A strong sense of urgency and ownership, with the initiative to confirm a delivery date rather than assume it.
Work Environment
- This is an on-site position. Full-time presence at the jobsite near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is required.
- Delivery and rigging activity may require early, extended, or off hours coverage to receive equipment outside normal working hours.
- Regular work in an active construction environment, including exposure to weather, noise, active lifts, and uneven terrain, with required personal protective equipment.
