POSITION SUMMARY

 

Barton Malow is seeking a VDC Manager to support a large-scale data center project located near Philadelphia, PA. This role will be fully onsite and requires a consistent on-site presence to effectively collaborate with the project team and support execution.

 

The Sr. VDC Engineer or VDC Manager will lead all multi-trade BIM coordination efforts serving as the technical authority responsible for driving clash-free installation models that support field execution. Success in this position is defined by the ability to manage complex MEP coordination enforce modeling standards and collaborate closely with superintendents and foremen to ensure the coordinated model becomes the plan of record for construction.

Beyond trade coordination this role offers the opportunity to contribute additional VDC services, including constructability, sequencing, reality capture, logistics, and prefabrication, based on experience and project needs.

 


KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • 3D Trade Coordination
  • Lead and facilitate multi-trade BIM coordination meetings, managing clash detection workflows using Navisworks or equivalent platforms
  • Establish and enforce model authoring standards, LOD requirements, and file-sharing protocols across all trade contractors
  • Review and approve trade models for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with project coordination requirements
  • Drive clash resolution to zero open issues prior to installation, maintaining a documented log of all conflicts and resolutions
  • Coordinate with the project delivery team to ensure field installation aligns with the coordinated model
  • Constructability
  • Embed in preconstruction to provide model-based constructability reviews, identifying sequencing conflicts, access limitations, and scope gaps before construction begins
  • Evaluate structural, architectural, and MEP systems for spatial conflicts, constructability risks, and value engineering opportunities
  • Collaborate with project engineers and trade partners to resolve design issues prior to permit and procurement
  • Produce annotated model views and RFI documentation to drive design resolution with the owner and design team
  • Sequencing + 4D Simulation
  • Support 4D construction sequencing simulations linked to the project schedule to validate phasing logic and communicate the plan of work to field leadership and owners
  • Identify sequencing conflicts between trades, temporary work, and permanent construction — coordinating resolutions with the superintendent team
  • Support look-ahead planning by translating model data into visual work packaging for field crews
  • Update sequencing animations as the schedule evolves to reflect current site conditions and recovery plans
  • Other VDC Services
  • Understand reality capture operations (drone photogrammetry, laser scanning) to support as-built verification, progress tracking, and existing conditions documentation
  • Support and maintain site utilization and logistics models to support safe and efficient site operations
  • Deliver model-based quantity takeoffs and procurement support to project engineers and the self-perform team
  • Train and mentor project engineers and field staff on VDC tools and workflows, building capability across the project team
  • Report VDC performance metrics, deliverable status, and open issues to the project executive and owner as required


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • 6–8+ years of experience in construction or architecture.
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems and construction methods (architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical).
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of corporate safety standards and OSHA requirements.
  • Deep understanding of VDC capabilities (trade coordination, 4D, logistics, reality capture, document control).
  • Experience applying VDC strategies to improve efficiency and reduce risk on complex projects.
  • Understanding of project management processes (RFIs, submittals, change management, forecasting, closeout, etc.)
  • Knowledge of self-perform work and its integration with VDC practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to drive process improvements.
  • Ability to confidently present VDC strategies and lead coordination efforts.
  • Experience developing BIM Execution Plans and leading coordination meetings.
  • Familiar with Procore
