POSITION SUMMARY

The CSM Superintendent leads the civil, structural, and mechanical (CSM) scopes on utility-scale solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects, from site mobilization through mechanical completion. This role plans the work, leads crews and trade partners in the field, and holds everyone accountable for safety, quality, production, and schedule. The CSM Superintendent coordinates the handoffs between scopes and works closely with Project Management, Engineering, and the Electrical Superintendents to keep the job on schedule.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead civil, structural, and mechanical work from mobilization through mechanical completion, and promote and enforce Barton Malow's safety and quality culture on all CSM work.
  • Plan the work and hold crews and trade partners accountable for safety, quality, production, and schedule.
  • Own quality for all CSM scopes: build and carry out inspection and test plans (ITPs), run first-installation and mock-up inspections, verify tolerances, and track nonconformances through resolution.
  • Lead civil work including site prep, grading, roads, stormwater and erosion control, concrete foundations, and substation and BESS yard civil.
  • Lead pile installation (driven, pre-drilled, and helical), including load testing and refusal mitigation, and track daily counts against schedule.
  • Lead racking and module installation on single-axis tracker and fixed-tilt systems, working with manufacturers' field representatives to stay within installation requirements and warranty conditions.
  • Plan and oversee the setting of BESS enclosures, inverters, and major equipment, including rigging and lift plans, and support mechanical completion, turnover packages, and commissioning.
  • Build and manage short-interval schedules using Last Planner and Lean practices, and manage labour, equipment, and material logistics across the site.
  • Coordinate handoffs between scopes so work areas are ready and crews are not waiting.
  • Keep daily reports, production tracking, and change documentation current; build trust with owners, engineers, utilities, AHJs, and communities; and mentor foremen and field engineers

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8+ years of heavy civil, industrial, or energy nergy construction experience, with at least 3–5 years in a superintendent or senior field leadership role.
  • Direct experience on utility-scale solar (roughly 50 MW+) and/or BESS projects.
  • Working knowledge of earthwork, pile installation, single-axis tracker and fixed-tilt racking systems, and heavy equipment setting.
  • Proven focus on quality, including running ITPs, documenting tolerances, and delivering complete QC turnover packages.
  • Ability to read and interpret civil, structural, and mechanical drawings, geotechnical reports, and specifications.
  • Strong skills managing crews and trade partners, including tracking production and enforcing contract requirements
  • Proficiency with scheduling and field tools such as P6, MS Project, Procore, or similar.
