KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*:

  • Provide guidance and knowledge of human resources technical, legal, and regulatory environments, and assist with developing and implementing employee relations policies and practices
  • Investigate escalated employee complaints and resolves grievances and conflicts in collaboration with leadership
  • Manages and resolves first-level employee relations issues, including conducting effective, thorough, and objective investigations; advises team(s) regarding all adverse employment actions
  • Provide consultation to leadership and on employee relations issues to ensure the uniform and equitable application of policies and procedures
  • Advise business unit leadership on performance management and corrective actions which may result in disciplinary measures or termination
  • Collaborate with the benefits team on leave, workers’ compensation, and accommodation matters
  • Assist with training opportunities to expand the knowledge to teams on employee relation issues
  • Works closely with Business Unit team(s) and team members to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention. Establishes and maintains relationships with key partner groups to understand their business needs, ensure alignment on objectives, and ensure ongoing buy-in across all project activities
  • Open to travel 20%-50% to office site location 

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
  • 5+ years of progressive HR Business Partner/Manager experience in construction, manufacturing, or transportation preferred; experience in union environment preferred
  • Comprehensive knowledge of employee relations concepts, practices, laws, and regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to engage in critical thinking by using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively across functions/departments/teams while building trusted relationships and positively influencing others
  • Skilled at active listening in resolving conflicts, managing complaints, and settling disputes
  • Strong executive presence and demonstrated leadership skills, good judgment, and ability to effectively interface with employees and leaders at all levels
  • Strong organizational skills; able to effectively prioritize assignments and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to handle confidential material and sensitive situations in a reliable manner
  • HR Certification (e.g. SHRM-SCP, SPHR) is a plus
