POSITION SUMMARY 

The Data Science Intern at Barton Malow supports the development and implementation of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and advanced analytics solutions across the organization. Working under the guidance of Data Scientists and in collaboration with IT, Application Developers, and Data Engineers, the intern contributes to building data models, performing statistical analysis, and developing proof-of-concept solutions that improve business decision-making and operational efficiency. This role provides hands-on experience with real projects, modern data platforms, and cross-functional teamwork, helping bridge data engineering and business analytics to deliver actionable insights. 

 

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*:   

  • Data Exploration and Analysis: Assist in acquiring, cleaning, and exploring structured and unstructured data from internal and external sources to support analytics and modeling initiatives. 
  • Analytical Support for Business Problems: Apply foundational statistical methods and exploratory analysis to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities tied to construction and business operation. 
  • Machine Learning Development Support: Contribute to building, testing, and evaluating machine learning models under supervision, including feature engineering, model training, and performance validation. 
  • Data Visualization and Storytelling: Utilize tools like Power BI to create compelling data visualizations that communicate insights clearly and effectively to stakeholders. 
  • Data Pipelines and Automation: Support the development and monitoring of data pipelines and workflows to ensure reliable data availability for dashboards and models, following team standards and best practices. 
  • Documentation and Continuous Learning: Document code, methodologies, assumptions, and results for reproducibility, and actively learn new tools and techniques (e.g., Databricks, SQL, Python, version control). 

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, data engineering, software engineering, mathematics, statistics, or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of programming.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to learn quickly.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams.
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining data integrity and quality.
