POSITION SUMMARY
Barton Malow is seeking an experienced Director of Software Engineering to lead our engineering teams and drive the development of our software platforms. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in building scalable software solutions, extensive experience with AWS, and a proven track record of leading and mentoring engineering teams.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and manage multiple engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence
- Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of our software and data platforms
- Define and implement technical strategies aligned with business objectives
- Collaborate with product management to prioritize and deliver features
- Ensure best practices in software development, including code quality, testing, and deployment
- Manage AWS infrastructure and optimize cloud-based solutions
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes and methodologies
- Mentor and develop engineering talent, promoting career growth within the organization
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in leadership roles
- Proven experience building and scaling software platforms
- Strong expertise in AWS services and cloud architecture
- Experience leading and managing distributed engineering teams including matrix positions
- Excellent understanding of software development methodologies and best practices
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or related field (master's preferred)
- Associates/ Experience with microservices architecture and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
- Familiarity with Agile and DevOps practices (Jira experience a plus)
- Knowledge of data engineering and data architecture in AWS
- Experience with multiple programming languages and frameworks
