POSITION SUMMARY

Barton Malow is currently hiring for the role of EPC Counsel in our legal department based in Southfield, Michigan.  The ideal candidate should be proficient in construction law, an effective team leader and player as the situation requires, and willing to adopt innovative approaches and emerging technologies to the delivery of legal services. This individual will be responsible for delivering legal services to one or more of Barton Malow’s construction market teams, both individually and through partnering with other team members.


KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Handle a wide range of legal matters, including contract negotiations, change orders, and risk management.
  • Lead the negotiation and drafting of EPC contracts, subcontractor agreements and other complex construction agreements.
  • Ensure the company's compliance with all relevant laws and regulations in the Renewable Energy industry.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate legal risks associated with projects, providing guidance on project-specific legal issues, and ensuring that risk management practices are in place.
  • Reviewing, drafting and negotiation of construction, service, supply and other commercial agreements in a manner that balances both the Company’s business strategy and potential risks.
  • Advising project and market teams on the resolution of claims and managing outside counsel when litigation or arbitration is necessary.
  • Providing advice on general commercial or corporate matters.
  • Assisting the Vice President of Legal with other legal and risk management matters as needed.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with construction law in a law firm or in-house counsel setting.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in support of energy/renewables construction market.
  • Must be skilled at communicating legal concepts and strategies to non-lawyers and synthesizing complex factual situations when providing advice.
  • Must be a collaborator with a positive attitude who enjoys a coordinated approach to delivering legal services.
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed and in good standing to practice law in one or more states.
