POSITION SUMMARY

 

The Payroll Manager plays a critical role in overseeing and ensuring the effective functioning of the payroll team.  The Payroll Manager is responsible for managing the ongoing activities within the Payroll department.  This position will ensure the payroll functions are in compliance with company policies and procedures, wage and hour laws, Federal Labor Standards Act (FLSA), union contracts, and other applicable requirements.

 


KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Oversees the day-to-day processes of the payroll department which also includes driving compliance of processes within and outside the department. This includes but is not limited to new union setup, understanding union contracts, union reporting, and accuracy of payrolls.
  • Responsible for supporting audits, communicating issues, documenting, and overseeing resolution plans for internal and external audits.
  • Ensures team members acquire necessary skills and performance attributes in line with business and development needs.
  • Performs periodic (weekly & biweekly) tax balancing of payroll wages and taxes. Assists in the Quarterly and Annual tax reconciliation in an outsourced tax remittance vendor (ADP) environment (including managing state unemployment rates).
  • Defines and drives key requirements, projects, and initiatives with a high degree of quality collaboration.
  • Plans, develops, and implements forward-looking payroll processes/procedures to continuously seek improvement, improve accuracy, create optimal efficiency, and provide best-in-class team member experience.

 


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent work experience is preferred. 
  • 6+ years of experience working in a payroll capacity demonstrating expertise in union reporting and new union set-up. 
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll processes, tax regulations, and compliance.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Prior experience with SAP or SuccessFactors preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team and execute key initiatives. 
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
