POSITION SUMMARY
Barton Malow is seeking a detail-oriented and driven Project Accountant to join our team. The Project Accountant will play a key role in supporting project teams with all accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring the production of timely, accurate, and meaningful financial information. This position requires a solid foundation in accounting or finance, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across project and finance teams.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as an integral member of the project team by analyzing and resolving accounting issues to ensure accurate project reporting, compliance with contractual agreements, and adherence to accounting standards.
- Process and allocate payables accurately and efficiently to maintain compliance and ensure timely payments.
- Reconcile job costs to confirm appropriate billing to owners, identifying and communicating over/under variances to project teams for corrective action.
- Prepare and submit monthly owner pay applications and other required financial reports.
- Conduct regular reconciliations of accounts receivable in accordance with Barton Malow’s standards and prepare monthly billing accruals.
- Perform audits of aged accounts receivable and collaborate with project teams to resolve outstanding issues.
- Assist with project budget setup, ensuring accuracy in markups, pricing, and cost structures.
- Participate in financial forecasting and cost reviews, identifying risks and their potential impact on monthly financials and overall project reporting.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance preferred.
- 1–3 years of relevant accounting or finance experience.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify, research, and resolve accounting discrepancies.
- Effective communicator who can collaborate across internal teams and with external partners.
- Ability to balance project team responsibilities with fiduciary oversight from the Project Finance and Controls (PFC) group.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines under pressure.
- Keen attention to detail and a proactive approach to recognizing and communicating project risks.
