POSITION SUMMARY

The Sr. Benefits Specialist/Benefits Manager is primarily responsible for administration of Barton Malow’s 401(k) and health plan benefits, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. This role supports daily operations and assists with various projects related to both benefits programs and coordination with internal teams and external vendors.  This is a hybrid role that requires certain days onsite in our Southfield office each week.


KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for daily 401(k) plan administration, including team member questions, weekly payroll contributions, loan monitoring, periodic audits, and reporting.
  • Assist with various 401(k) projects, such as the annual contribution process, external audits, and vendor testing to ensure smooth operations and compliance.
  • Coordinate health plan reporting, approve monthly invoices, and create self-billings. Support health plan projects including open enrollment and 1095 form review.
  • Lead vendor coordination meetings to ensure effective communication and collaboration with external partners.
  • Assist with annual health plan projects such as open enrollment and ACA compliance.
  • Manage SAP team coordination calls and track project status for plan changes, system improvements, and testing.
  • Monitor file feeds and coordinate with internal partners and vendors on discrepancies or file modifications.
  • Administer leave programs, including FMLA, disability, and statutory requirements.
  • Develop and deliver benefits training programs and communications, lead benefits orientation sessions and review utilization reports to identify areas for improvement. 
  • Partner with the Benefits Specialist to support all benefits inquiries, enrollment approvals, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal and state laws related to benefits offerings and reporting including ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, Section 125, ACA, FMLA, and ADA.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Benefits, Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting.
  • Four to seven years of experience in Benefits Administration and HRIS. Experience administering 401(k) plans is required. Prior experience with SAP is a plus.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws/regulations related to team member benefits.
  • Ability to meet time-sensitive deadlines, work independently, and use strong problem-solving skills. 
  • Detailed-oriented and possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills.
