POSITION SUMMARY
Barton Malow is seeking a Sr. Cost Analyst to join our Southfield, MI based team working on travel assignments. This senior-level role will support project teams by analyzing financial data related to construction projects, offering timely and reliable information to help guide decision-making, project planning, and overall financial management. The Sr. Cost Analyst will be a key player in providing valuable insights on project profitability, risk management, and forecasting, ensuring all financial processes are aligned with company objectives and industry best practices. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of construction financials, advanced analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex financial data clearly to various stakeholders. This position requires a proactive, results-oriented individual who can manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work under pressure.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide in-depth financial analysis to assess the financial health of construction projects, ensuring profitability, risk management, and effective project planning.
- Lead project start-up efforts, including identifying financial deliverables and developing baseline budgets.
- Actively engage in the change management process and monthly forecasting, ensuring all financial adjustments are accurately tracked.
- Manage external customer requirements, including owner reporting, subcontractor challenges, and joint venture reporting.
- Align project financials with business unit and corporate objectives, providing strategic insights for decision-making.
- Identify financial risks and opportunities by thoroughly reviewing and analyzing monthly forecasts.
- Ensure accurate accruals and cash management, balancing project financials in line with company standards.
- Oversee compliance with Barton Malow’s best practices, policies, and procedures, including internal audits.
- Collaborate with project teams to generate all required internal project reports and provide clear, concise reporting to owners based on project data.
- Complete ad-hoc reporting as necessary to support ongoing project needs.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred.
- A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in cost analysis or project finance, preferably within the construction industry.
- Expertise in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with Bluebeam, Prolog, Box, SAP.
- Advanced math and accounting skills, with the ability to analyze large sets of financial data and draw meaningful conclusions.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with diverse teams, including contractors, architects, and owners.
- Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities under pressure.
- Results-oriented mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement.
- In-depth understanding of construction management principles and processes, including accounts payable/receivable (A/P and A/R).
