POSITION SUMMARY
Barton Malow Company is seeking a Project Manager (Self-Perform) to join our team supporting an automotive project based in Spring Hill, Tennessee. This role is focused on leading Barton Malow’s self-performed scopes of work, ensuring safe, high-quality, and productive execution in the field while maintaining alignment with project budget, schedule, and contractual requirements.
The Project Manager (Self-Perform) will spend the majority of their time on-site and will be directly responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing Barton Malow craft personnel, field supervision, and resources. This position requires strong leadership, technical construction knowledge, and a proactive commitment to safety and quality.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and manage Barton Malow’s self-performed construction activities, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project quality standards.
- Ensure all self-perform work is installed, inspected, and documented in compliance with project specifications, drawings, and quality requirements.
- Enforce compliance with all client, company, and regulatory safety policies, procedures, and standards.
- Plan, coordinate, and manage the daily activities of Barton Malow craft labor, field supervision, and support staff on assigned projects.
- Develop and manage self-perform work plans, including manpower loading, equipment needs, productivity tracking, and sequencing.
- Support and assist with internal estimating efforts for self-perform scopes, including labor, equipment, and material forecasting.
- Manage and assist with project budgets related to self-perform work, including cost tracking, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Coordinate procurement and ensure timely delivery of materials, tools, and equipment required for self-performed work.
- Support project controls, scheduling, and reporting requirements related to self-perform activities.
- Coordinate and review submittals and verify compliance with project design for self-perform scopes.
- Support weekly and monthly project reporting, including progress updates, cost reporting, and manpower reporting.
- Assist in the preparation and review of technical plans, work packages, method statements, and construction documentation.
- Support compilation of turnover documentation, including as-builts, O&M manuals, and closeout requirements for self-performed work.
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and development to field supervisors, foremen, and craft personnel.
- Liaise with clients and internal stakeholders to ensure expectations are met and contractual requirements are satisfied.
- Support and participate in company-sponsored initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management or engineering, with relevant structural, industrial, or automotive project experience.
- 5–8 years of relevant construction experience, with direct experience managing self-performed work.
- Proven experience leading field teams, craft labor, and construction supervision.
- Strong understanding of construction means and methods, productivity tracking, and field execution.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a project team.
- OSHA 30-Hour certification preferred.
- Proactive, positive attitude with a strong commitment to safety and quality.
- Willingness to travel as required, with the expectation of spending the majority of time on-site.
