We’re seeking a Sitework Superintendent who reflects these values and is ready to lead a complex civil/sitework package on a major project in St. Louis, MO.
The Superintendent manages day‑to‑day field operations with a primary focus on civil and sitework scopes. Working independently, this position oversees field activities, coordinates multiple contractors, maintains schedule and quality expectations, and ensures all work is performed safely and in strict accordance with plans and specifications. The Superintendent also plays a key role in mentoring onsite staff and maintaining strong relationships with subcontractors, trade partners, and the owner.
Responsibilities:
Project Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare detailed and timely daily reports.
- Review subcontractor daily reports to identify coordination needs, issues, and potential claims.
Preconstruction & Scoping Support
- Assist in developing clear scopes of work and front-end bidding documents.
- Participate in bid processes, post-bid interviews, and responses to bidder questions.
- Help identify qualified contractors based on project needs and capabilities.
Field Oversight & Quality Control
- Ensure project rules, procedures, and quality standards are followed.
- Oversee progress and workmanship of contractors and enforce contractual responsibilities.
- Observe field operations to monitor performance, productivity, and coordination.
- Lead and complete the punchlist process.
Coordination & Scheduling
- Supervise, sequence, and coordinate contractor activities to avoid conflicts and improve workflow.
- Initiate development of the project schedule; manage and maintain it throughout the project.
- Prepare detailed short-term (3-week look-ahead) schedules.
- Assist with inspection processes and commissioning support.
- Lead contractor coordination meetings.
Field Labor & Site Management
- Organize and manage the daily on-site labor force.
- Assist in jobsite setup, including field trailer mobilization and process establishment.
- Develop comprehensive site logistics plans to maximize productivity and minimize disruption.
Cost & Change Management Support
- Assist the Project Manager with budget management and forecasting.
- Monitor contractor time, materials, and potential changes affecting cost or schedule.
Client & Business Development Support
- Maintain professional relationships with owners, contractors, and design partners.
- Support efforts to secure repeat and new business opportunities.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of direct supervision of construction projects, including trade oversight.
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical/engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with contractors, architects, and owners.
- Proven ability to manage conflict and negotiate professionally.
- Demonstrated knowledge of construction methods, safety standards, environmental regulations, performance expectations, and union relations.
