POSITION SUMMARY

The VDC Engineer 2 position is the first level of a stand-alone engineer. This position is able to manage day-to-day technical issues and develop project processes independently, receiving guidance from the senior VDC Engineers or VDC Manager on complex issues. The VDC Engineer 2 provides technical support, documents best methods and processes, creates and provides training, and may assume VDC management responsibilities as required. The VDC Engineer 2 may have some project responsibilities. The VDC Engineer 2 must be a flexible and adaptable team-player, as well as have strong communication and client service skills. Roles with VDC vary depending on the department, regional needs and experience. This role may require up to 50% travel. The VDC Engineer 2 has varying levels of authority depending on the impact their decision-making may have on the organization, including the authority to interpret and influence policies and operating practices. The position typically reports to a VDC Manager 1 or above. The VDC Engineer 2 may mentors interns and/or Project Engineer 1 positions.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Can communicate VDC purpose, standards, and follow in line with proper pursuit and project engagement techniques (AKA VDC Enablement vs Production) with little assistance from manager; Delivers formal training: onsite, just in time, e-learning, instructor-led, and webinar, as required to Barton Malow team members, subcontractors, Architects and Owners.
• With some guidance, can set up, assist, and / or provide technical and process related support for Box, Bluebeam, BIM360, Autodesk Build, model Quantity Take-Off, Site Logistics Planning,  Reality Capture, and other VDC supported systems as required; Understands and can assist with project management software solution questions from project teams.
• Has some exposure to 4D scheduling, 3D Coordination, QA/QC, Navisworks Manage, AutoCAD, and Revit.
• Participates in software testing for new releases of existing and new software
• Creates draft BIM Execution Plan including 013700 and AE BIM Guidelines with some guidance; Sets up models for coordination and runs or begins to enable others to perform clash detection with guidance

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• 1  to 4 years experience as a Project Engineer or VDC Engineer.
• Preferred 4 year Engineering, Construction Management or related degree
• Strong proactive positive attitude with commitment to Safety
• General knowledge of Navisworks Manage, AutoCAD and Revit.  Gives basic navigation training in these programs, if needed.
• Can communicate VDC techniques, value, and implementation strategies
• May require up to 50% travel to office and job-sites.
• Previous exposure to construction processes and VDC is preferred
